We are PROUD of our 2025 scholarship recipients, doing great hings in the world. Pictured left to right are Curt Green (committee), Stacey Harter, Emerson Fairbanks, Elizabeth Stone, Coral Hodges, Nancy Lydon (committee). Not pictured are Marilyn Stone (committee), Bianca Lara (high school graduate!), and Alyssa Lilly. We are grateful for our committee members, those who have donated to the
scholarship funds over the years, and this faith community that has nurtured these amazing students.
Pride has often been described as a sin or vice, but that is not the only way of understanding it. Aristotle understood pride to be a greatness of soul, a virtue marked by a balanced sense of one’s worth or achievement, necessary as motivation to strive for excellence. This Sunday as we honored the accomplishments of our scholarship recipients and celebrate the pride of and in the LGBTQ+
community, we are reminded that, as Jesus said, “We are gods!” and we recognize the pride that might be just what’s needed for us to rise.
This service, with great music from Bruce and an encouraging message from Jason, would be great to share with your LGBTQ family and friends. You can find it here.
Beginning June 18th and conitnuing for several weeks, we will be engaing the book Building Up a New World in our Wednesday evening Together group.
Many of us may be feeling understandably despairing these days. The chaos machine is hard at work trying to distract and
discourage us, making it hard to know where to turn or discern what to do. And it’s harder still to feel prepared and skilled in the ways we need to be to respond with loving compassion and justice-bringing passion. The good news is that every chapter in Building Up a New World: Congregational Organizing for Transformative Impact provides another tool in our organizing toolbelt, equipping us to do the work that is before us in this moment. From practicing mutual
aid, to creating community safety and becoming sanctuary, there are so many openings for you and your community to begin or deepen your journey of doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with God.
You can join us on-site at 1415 North K ST in Lake Worth Beach, FL or online via Zoom (click here).

Room Needed For Two Weeks
Flavio Rapaio, our percussionist for the past few months, will be moving to Tampa in July to begin a Master's Degree program. His lease here ends at the end of June. He will be working as an instructor. with the Youth
Orchestra of Palm Beach County summer camp the first two weeks of July and needs a place to stay, which means we will have him for worship for three more weeks! If you have a room he can use, please let Bruce or Jason know. Thanks!
Building Soulforce Workshop
On Sunday June 29th, from 2:00 - 5:00, Jason will be leading a new workshop. Soul Force is that ineffable quality, the inner power that allows us to meet the demands of life and make a difference in the world. It is the satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi, expressed in the United States in the speeches of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In this workshop, we will:
Gain clarity on your most important goals for the next six to twelve months, as well as a vision for the future you're excited to move towards.
Develop a personal protocol and process to achieve those goals, with easily accomplishable daily steps.
Gain greater confidence in your capacity to move through challenges, do hard things, and be who you're capable of being.
Know who you are at your
best, the qualities that the best version of yourself embodies, and—most importantly-how to express that best version of yourself more consistently every day.
Cultivate the ability to respond intentionally to life with a simple, repeatable process: stepping into the gap between stimulus and response and closing the gap between who you're capable of being and who you're actually being.
Create a valuable collection of prior successes, and learn how to leverage your
prior successes as fuel to create a better future.
Know what it means to flourish, and how to live with more wisdom, discipline, courage, love, gratitude, hope, curiosity, and zest.
Connect with other people committed to being the best versions of themselves, in service of something bigger.
This will be in person at the church office, 1415 North K ST, Lake Worth Beach FL. We will hold online versions
in the near future.
The Hope Portal
Our friends at On Being have put together a a reflection/course experience curated by Krista and drawing upon her conversations with several visionary humans: adrienne maree brown, Naomi Shihab Nye, Ocean Vuong, Joy Harjo, Joanna Macy, and Ross Gay. Together, they extend rich and actionable invitations for a muscular, reality-based hope.
They offer ways of seeing and living to lay our hands and our hearts, our imaginations and life force on the generative possibilities of life in this time. You can find a link to the episodes, Substack, and journal on their website.
New Series Beginning July 6th!
Jesus was clear that "out of the heart the mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45 and Matthew 12:34.) Might we also change our hearts by being intentional about how we speak? Complaining and criticizing can keep us in a loop of despair and apathy. Practicing positive constructive speech shifts how we view the world, and if enough of us practice it, it might could change the world!
Soul Care for Weary Activists
"For those of us whose activism and faith are woven together, the temptation to turn to a safer “inner life” can be compelling. Why take on what we cannot solve in this lifetime? The present historical moment seeks to split our faith from our activism. Residing in our faith alone would be a defensive
retreat, a surrender to denial and exhaustion. Activism alone would never offer a complete answer either."
Our friends over at Sojourners Magazine ran a great article on soul care for activists. A great read for our faithful activist community!
