Souping It Up a Week Early!

Lake Worth U.C.C. participates yearly with CROS Ministries to help provide food to the hungry and food insecure in Palm Beach County. We hold an annual fundraiser during our fellowship time after the service. By "voting" with a monetary donation in a pot labeled for either of the two teams competing in the Super Bowl this year, we have a fun time expressing our support of teams and specifically CROS Ministries. The Missions' Committee matches every dollar raised for CROS. Bring your money, your appetite and join us in fellowship on Feb 2 - a week earlier than the actual Super Bowl.

Mark your calendar to join us for brunch and a special worship service at the Lake Worth Beach Club. This is our "thank you" to one another for the commitments we are making in 2025 to participate in our corner of God's Kin-dom here at Lake Worth United Church of Christ. Brunch will be served beginning at 11:00 AM, with a short worship service beginning at 11:30. There is no cost for the brunch, but we do ask you to register here so we have an accurate count.

Next Sunday we will engage the "practicing faith" part of our life together. Next Sunday will also be our commitment Sunday. What do you imagine for Lake Worth UCC in 2025? How will you commit to enage? How can Lake Worth UCC support you in how you are practicing and engaging the world? Let us know by filling out the cards you have received in worship the past two Sundays. We will have extra cards this week as well.

This Tuesday, January 28th, we will be meeting with Sheriff Bradshaw to hear a report on data collection on traffic stops. Pastor Jason and Jill Hanson will be our spokespeople and we want a big crowd to demostrate our people power. We will gather at 9:30 for prep and the sheriff will join us at 10:30. This meeting will take place on Zoom. You can join here.

And tomorrow, the UCC is hosting a webinar on "What's Next, Illusions and Realities of Christianity and Politics." Join Rev. Dr. Dietra Wise Baker for a conversation exploring Justice as a spiritual practice within and beyond the Protestantism and how to live beyond the illusions of an apolitical gospel. Rev. Dr. Wise Baker will then give us some guidelines on how to get started towards a social transformation that includes ALL of G-d's creation. You can register here.

The UCC's Nurture the Soul series will also feature the book "Don't Just Give Me That Old Time Religion" by Dr. Chritine W. Wiley on Thursday January 30th at 3:30. You can register here.

This Wednesday night we begin discussing God & Empire. We will discuss the first chapter. If you don't yet have the book you can download the first chapter here. We meet onsite in the church office and online via Zoom.

When you donate to the UCC, 100% of your donation goes to relief efforts in California. And Lake Worth UCC is matching everything given, so acutally 200% of your donation goes to recovery efforts! You can donate online here.

Do you know someone that is feeling the need for a little more love in their life? Invite them to our new series beginning February 16th. For three weeks, we will be focusing on the abundant love available for us to experience and share with the world. There will be great music, teaching, and the love of a great bunch of people for them to experience. We are looking forward to a great time together!
