Did you know our church has an app? You can keep up with what is going on in our community including livestreams of worship services, previous services, events, and giving. In upcoming newsletters, we'll highlight some of the features.
One of our favorite features is the "Gallery" where you can see pictures from our latest activities. Special thanks to Vickie Grimes for maintaining this section for us!
You can find the app on Google Play here and at the Apple App Store here. You can also watch us on Apple TV and Roku. Over the summer you will see updates as we transition our artwork from First Congregational to Lake Worth UCC.
As we continue exploring the experience of the risen Christ, this week we engaged the abiding presence of the Divine in the resurrected Christ, in whose love we, in turn, love others. You can watch the service here. Next Sunday we will hear Jesus famous words to his friends from John 15, "“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."
At Lake Worth United Church of Christ we are proud of our relationship with Christians Reaching Out to Society. CROS Ministries serves the hungry in Palm Beach and Martin Counties through community collaborations. In 2023, CROS gave bags of food to 123,022 individuals,
gleaned 496,377 pounds of fresh prodice, served 62,053 meals through the caring kitchen, and provided 4,068 snacks to summer camps throughout Palm Beach County. Our church packs groceries once a month with CROS, raises money each year for the Hustle 2 End Hunger, and participates in gleaning. As a part of our mission to practice mercy, we recently provided CROS with a grant for $1000 for their "Raise a Glass to End Hunger"
fundraiser. You can purchase tickets to attend here. Thanks to our missions committee for their leadership and to all of you for your financial support which enables as to provide for our partners in ministry.
This looks like a great webinar series from the national setting of the UCC. The needs are great, and the stakes are high in the work of justice building. The good news is most of our local churches are already equipped more than they know. In fact, many local churches might find renewal and growth by revisioning and reprioritizing what it means to be engaged in ongoing justice work and using a
more intersectional analysis as to where they will have transformative impact. For the past two years Rev. Tracy Howe designed a fellowship to intensively train a handful of leaders and nurture the support necessary for sustained engagement in the complex and urgent issues facing our world. Through this leadership program 5-Fellows, worked to develop organizing strategies, programing and educational opportunities regionally, according to specific needs and contexts in which the fellows
live. Come and learn more about their experiences and glean from the wisdom of their dedication to build congregation and community engagement. You can register for the remaining sessions here. You can watch previous episodes of this webinar here.
Herbal Care Workshop Our own Johanna Castillo, a member of the Firebush Herbalist Network, will be participating in this workship on Saturday May 4th.
For years, On Being was a program that aired in the early morning hours on National Public Radio. On it, Krista Tippett interviewed spiritual thinkers, authors, scientists, poets, and activists. In 2022, the show moved from a weekly radio series to a seasonal podcast. In one of the episodes from last year, Krista
interviewed climate activist Christiana Figueres. In the conversation, "Ecological Hope and Spiritual Evolution," they discuss how we endure in the work of environmental justice. "If you have wondered how to keep hope alive amidst a thousand reasons to despair, if you are ready to take your despair as fuel — intrigued by the idea of stepping into love and immediate realities of abundance and regeneration — this conversation is for you." You can listen here.
