On Sunday, June 30th following our worship service we will have a class for those who would like to know more about Lake Worth UCC and the United Church of Christ. If you are new to us, interested in the possibility of joining, or even if you have been here for a while and would like a refresher, this is a great opportunity to gether in an informal setting to learn. Coming ti the class does not obligate you to become a member, however, for those who would like to join, we will receive new members on Sunday, July 7th.

Scholarship Sunday

Next Sunday, June 23rd, we will be honoring the students in our congregation who are receiving scholarships from Lake Worth UCC. We are excited to have two high school graduates, two continuing college students, and one who is going to seminary! Join us Sunday as we honor them in our worship service and following worship with refreshements. 

This summer we are making our way through the books of Samuel, reflecting on stories from the history of Israel, and gleaning hints on how the Divine moves in the midst of our lives. Next Sunday we will engage one of the most famous stories in the Bible, David and Goliath, and imagine what it has to say to us as we encounter battles in life. You can also follow along with the daily lectionary readings from 1 and 2 Samuel in "The Daily" on our website or in the app.

Summer Class

This summer, we will be participating  with Hombebrewed Christianity's "Faith and Politics for the Rest of Us" class. 

"In Faith & Politics for the Rest of Us, Dr. Diana Butler Bass, Dr. Tripp Fuller, and Tim Whitaker are bringing together a number of alternative theo-political visions to introduce a multiplicity of vibrant, yet neglected traditions in public theology. With the help of some of the most powerful voices in the academy, participants will be introduced to these traditions and get to put them into action as we wrestle with our present moment, discovering the potential for an alternative public Christian witness.

In a time where the public square is increasingly tribal and algorithmically addicted to outrage, over-simplification, and performative politics, a tour of these rich yet neglected theological traditions can inspire and fund a more vibrant Christian voice in the public square as we seek to embody the love of neighbor to which we are called."

This class will include lectures and live discussions. We will gather at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evenings beginning June 12th through July 10th, in person and via Zoom (join here! - this is an updated link) for a discussion of each week's material. We are asking that you register at faithandpolitics.net so you will have access to all of the course material. You can donate whatever you wish. However, a donation for the class has already been made on behalf of all of us from the church. We recommend a donation of $5 with the note "I am participating with Lake Worth UCC." Pastor Jason can help with this if necessary.

And that, my good people, is the real scandal of the gospel. It isn’t just that it’s good news for the oppressed people in need of liberation or the poor in need of solidarity. It’s not just for the Ethiopian eunuchs, the outsiders.

It’s also good news for the insiders, the sinners, the religious people who’ve gotten it wrong — which is actually all of us sometimes.

The Disciples and UCC address the crisis in the Middle East

Global Ministries is the cooperative ministry of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. They have created a page that collects the history of their work in Middle East and the statements, prayers, and action of the denomination. You can see it here.
