Drawing on the wisdom of philosopher Brian Johnson (from his book Areté) and others, here, briefly, are the four loves we identified:
Love 1.0, love for our family and friends
Love 0.0, love for ourselves
Love 2.0, "the 'micro-moments of
positivity resonance' (Barbara Frederickson, Love 2.0) with people all day every day" that provide "the neuro-psychological benefit of exiting our 'cocoons of self-absorbtion' long enough to make authentic connections."
And Love 3.0, heroic love that en-courages others
(Johnson also identifies Love 8.0, the love we bring to our work, and Love infinity.0, loving all that is - yes all!)
One of the many things I love about our church is that we faithfully practice, work at, that Love 3.0. In our works of mercy and justice, we work to make a difference in the world around us. You demonstrate it every Tuesday night. You demonstrate it when you work for justice. Stacey and Carol demonstrated it by sharing with us this Sunday in worship (you can see that service here) and again at our Monday night justice ministry celebration. You do it as you share your resources with organizations that make a difference in our community. You do it when you lead us in worship. Thank you to all of you for the privilege of serving you and serving with you!
