Join us this Sunday, October 29th, after the worship service for a brief introduction to our church, the UCC, and what membership in our church looks like. We will then receive new members on
Sunday November 5th.
This Sunday, we continued our new series, Entrusted. We dug into the story of the golden calf and pondered what the "promised lands" and "golden calves" are in our personal lives and in our
life togather. We had a poor quality broacast Sunday. We were able to clean up the sound a bit. You can watch the service here. This Sunday, we will invited to hear Jesus' admonition to "render to Caesar what is Caesar's and render to God what is God's" in a slightly different way. You can join us onsite at 1415 North K ST in Lake Worth, or at fcclw.org.
Neighbors in Need is a special mission offering that supports works of justice and compassion in the United States and abroad. Two-thirds of the Neighbors In Need receipts support program
initiatives and direct grants offered through the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries. To see how some of those grants are being used, read these stories. We will be collecting for this UCC offering Sunday 10/22 and Sunday 10/29. As a church, we match whatever we collect to send to Neighbors in Need.
Changing Our Name For the past several
months, our leadership has been having a conversation regarding changing the name of our church to better identify who we are to the community. The consensus has been that if we change our name, it should be to Lake Worth United Church of Christ. This change has been approved by our church council and will be presented to the congregation to be voted on at our annual meeting on November 19th.
We Have a New Address We have a new mailing address: First Congregational Church PO BOX 1253 Lake Worth Beach FL 33460
Thank You! Hustle to End Hunger
Thank you to everyone who ran (Rex & Paisley!), walked, and contributed. We raised over $3000 (new total!) for CROS Ministries.
In this mini group, starting tonight, we will take three weeks to discuss Arthur C. Brooks and Oprah Winfrey's new book, Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier. The book is readily available in multiple formats and venues. Let us know if you need help locating one. We
will meet at 6:30 on Thursday evening October 26th - November 9th by zoom and in person at the office.
For the past 13 years our church has hosted a community meal on Tuesday evenings. As we have been in the process of discerning how we might best serve God and God's people in the future, we feel our Communtiy Dinner is an important part of that work. In addition to a meal, we provde
showers, laundry, hair cuts, toiletries, and food pantry. As we begin our dinners again in August, we need to replenish our pantry. You can help by picking up the following on your next grocery run: Pop-top Canned Fruit, Pop-top Canned Meat, Granola/Snack Bars. You can also donate funds here. If you would like to help with this ministry by setting up, serving, or cleaning up, see Susan Peterson.
