Listening Meetings

You are invited to attend one of our 2017 listening meetings as we begin our justice ministry year. The first step in justice work is to share our stories. These sessions are a chance for us to share our first encounter with injustice and to share our observations about injustice in our community. You will also hear about our justice ministry here at First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Sunday October 1st 11:45 - 1:15 in the Church Parlor Facilitator: Nancy Lydon

Sunday October 8th 11:45 - 1:15 in the Church Parlor Facilitator: Carol Lewis

Friday October 13th 6:00 - 7:30 PM Facilitator: Johana Castillo

Exodus: A Journey of Justice

This week we continued engaging the story of Exodus as a story of justice. We explored God's Economy through the story of God's provision of manna in the desert.

While you're there you can take a look at a slide show of the ways you have experienced God speaking to you. If you would like, you can also follow along with the daily readings through Exodus on our website.

White Privilege - Let's Talk

Beginning Wednesday night, October 4th, we will hold a 6-week guided conversation on race and, specifically, white privilege. This will be a challenging, but possibly transformative conversation. You can find more information on our website.

Post-Irma Workshop

End Hunger Walk
We will once again participate in the CROS End Hunger Walk on Saturday, October 7.

Samaritan Golf Classic
Do you golf? Consider participating in the 12th Annual Samaritan Golf Classic on October 15, supporting Community Christian Counseling Center. Proceeds from the tournament will enhance their ability to provide counseling services to those who would not be able to afford them. Our own Carol Lewis provides counseling services through Community Christian Counseling. You can learn more information and register for the tournament here.

Renewal Book Club

Join us for our book club meeting on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 pm in the parlor. We will be discussing the novel, The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis. The book for November is the mission selection, Patrick D. Smith's Forever Island, which we will discuss on November 7 at 7:00 pm. All book lovers are welcome.

Facebook Link

As much as we love gathering together on Sunday mornings, there are times when we are out of town or otherwise unable to be there in person. You can now watch our worship service live on Facebook right on your computer, tablet, or smart phone. At 10:30 on Sunday just head over to our Facebook page and join us!

Facebook

First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.  If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page.

Hurricane Relief

We are supporting relief efforts for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria through One Great Hour of Sharing. If you would like to contribute, you can write "Hurricane Relief" on your envelope or check.

Thank You
Thank you for your generosity last Sunday - we raised $159 to send to Faustina.

Women's Fellowship
On Thursday, October 5, the Women's Fellowship will meet at 12:00 PM in the Parlor. Bring a lunch and come ready to enjoy each other's company and to decide upon coming events.

Meditation Groups
We have two meditation/centering prayer groups that meet here at First Congregational UCC. The Monday morning meditation group meets at 10:30 AM. The Cenacle Centering Prayer group meets Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM.

Church Garden
Vickie and Marty are working on plans for a new garden on our property along J Terrace to provide some fresh produce for our Community Dinner and pantry.  See them if you are interested in helping out!

Online Giving
Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
