Exodus: A Journey of Justice

Beginning Sunday, September 3rd, we began a worship series that will take us through the book of Exodus, the story of an oppressed people who cried out to God and were led to liberation. Through word, song, and interaction, we will engage their story and explore what the Still-Speaking God has to say to us about justice and liberation. This Sunday we engaged the call to do justice. You can watch the sermon here.

While you're there you can take a look at a slide show of the ways you have experienced God speaking to you. If you would like, you can also follow along with the daily readings through Exodus on our website.

Hurricane Harvey Relief
This Sunday, we will be collecting funds for Hurricane Harvey relief through One Great Hour of Sharing.
You can also give online here

Samaritan Golf Classic
Do you golf? Consider participating in the 12th Annual Samaritan Golf Classic, supporting Community Christian Counseling Center. Proceeds from the tournament will enhance their ability to provide counseling services to those who would not be able to afford them. Our own Carol Lewis provides counseling services through Community Christian Counseling. You can learn more information and register for the tournament here.

White Privilege - Let's Talk

Beginning Wednesday night, October 4th, we will hold a 6-week guided conversation on race and, specifically, white privilege. This will be a challenging, but possibly transformative conversation. You can find more information on our website.

Facebook Link

As much as we love gathering together on Sunday mornings, there are times when we are out of town or otherwise unable to be there in person. You can now watch our worship service live on Facebook right on your computer, tablet, or smart phone. At 10:30 on Sunday just head over to our Facebook page and join us!

Facebook

First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.  If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page.

Donuts This Sunday
Our dear Faustina Appiah is in need of glaucoma treatment for her eye. The Mission Committee will send the proceeds from the coffee hour collection to her. She says " Tell everyone 'Hi,  and I miss them'"

Choir Rehearsal Resumes
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a great group to raise your voice with? Join our choir, which begins rehearsing again on September 11. They gather at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary to practice music for the following Sunday. They are a talented, laid back, helpful group with a great director, Bruce Linser, who will be happy to welcome you into their band!

Church Garden
Vickie and Marty are working on plans for a new garden on our property along J Terrace to provide some fresh produce for our Community Dinner and pantry.  See them if you are interested in helping out!

New Oven
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our new oven! We are grateful to our Men's Fellowship for organizing and raising funds to put a brand new oven in our fellowship hall. We can't wait to start cooking!

Cenacle Centering Prayer Group
The Cenacle Centering Prayer Group begins again Thursday evening, September 7, at 7:00 PM in the parlor.

Listening Meetings
In September we will hold our annual justice ministry listening meetings. These are an opportunity for us to gather in small groups to share stories about how injustice touches us and our community, to share "what keeps us up at night." Stay tuned for when these groups will be taking place and join us to add your voice!

Online Giving
Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
