Opportunities to Make a Difference

In the next several weeks, First Congregational United Church of Christ is going to be making a difference in our community in many different ways.  We do these things not because we are looking for new ways to fill up our calendar or pad our religious resumes, but because along with walking with God and loving one another, one of our major purposes for existing is to serve our community. We proclaim the gospel and the kingdom of God not just with words, but with our actions as well.

I invite you to be involved in one or more of these activities in the coming weeks:

C.R.O.S. Food Pantry Collection - We have one more week to collect nonperishable items for the food pantry at Christians Reaching Out to Society. This month's drive has been a little slow, so whatever you can bring to help this vital ministry would be appreciated. For a list of items needed, check our website.

CROS Walk - We are once again participating in C.R.O.S Ministry's CROS Walk. We areencouraging everyone to participate by walking, pledging, praying, or all three!

Paint Your Heart Out - This Saturday, October 6th, we will be joining with others to help paint the house of a family in need. Check out the website for more information. I will have the volunteer forms and address of the house for those interested in participating on Sunday.

So, how will you be involved in this great month of service?

2012 Coastal Cleanup

On September 15th, a group of 14 of us joined other community volunteers in helping to clean up a stretch of coastline at Phipps Ocean Front Park. You can see pictures from our day here.

Morning Prayers

You are invited to join us on Wednesday mornings for a time of prayer, song, and silence. It has been a life-giving midweek experience for those of us who have gathered so far. You can find out more information here.

First in Caring

On the road to Capernaum, the disciples were arguing about who is the greatest. Jesus responds by reminding them that the last will be first. Then he picks up a child, whispering in her ear, "You are God's beloved child."

Then Jesus looked over the child's shoulder at his disciples and even farther off, Jesus is looking at us. "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me."

You can watch Sunday's sermon here.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
