What's In a Jar of Peanut Butter?

I was at the store this week picking up one of our household staples and I started thinking about what a wonderful food peanut butter is. It's one of the few foods that I find really good and good for me - in moderation of course! Just a little bit is very filling and is a great source of protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins. In fact, it's a much more economical and environmentally friendly source of protein than animal meat. It also lasts for a while on a shelf.

All of these factors (you can read more on Wikipedia) make peanut butter a great choice for food pantries. Yes, the price of peanut butter has gone up a bit in the past couple of years. However, for most reading this, a couple of jars is well within what we can afford and it could make a big difference in another's week. We have two more weeks of our CROS Food Drive. How many jars can we raise?

I hope you are all having a blessed week. I am looking forward to Sunday when we will continue to explore Jesus' upside down teaching about how we can have the best life possible. I'll be preaching on "First in Caring."

If you are on Facebook, head over to our Facebook page and "Like" us to keep up with what is going on at First Congregational United Church of Christ "between Sundays."

Who Are You, Jesus?

Right in the middle of the narrative of Mark's Gospel, Jesus asks the defining question: "Who do you say that I am?" While Peter got the right answer, he didn't understand the implications. We, like the disciples, must answer the question for ourselves and wrestle with what the answer asks of us.

Have you spent time this week pondering Jesus' question, "Who do you say that I am?"

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
