You Write the Blog: What's Your (Worship) Story?

I had lunch with a colleague yesterday and the conversation turned to worship styles. All of us church folks have an opinion on worship styles. Those of us "in the biz" talk (and argue) about theological and aesthetic considerations and what style of worship attracts the most people to church.

However, worship is about more than just the style of music that is sung or the sermon that is preached. It is about who we are with, where we are, what frame of mind and heart we are in.

I invite you to share below an experience you have had where you can say you
worshiped. Maybe it was at a glorious Easter Sunday service or a quiet Christmas Eve service. Maybe it was at a childhood camp around the fire. Or maybe it was at a symphony or  Grateful Dead concert. When was a time where you came in contact with something "other" or "more" when you were with a group of people (whether 10 or 10,000) Got to my blog and click "comments" to leave your story!

Every Life...

We are continuing our Sunday morning series on community and relationships, Every Life.... This week, we learned that "Every Life...Needs Love" You can listen or watch here.

Next Sunday, we will explore how "Every Life...Needs Acceptance." Acceptance is one of the most radical, powerful expressions of our Christian faith. Together we will explore how God accepts us, empowering us to accept and companion others. Do you have a friend that thinks God is mad at them? Bring them with you on Sunday! We hope to see you there!

Family Movie Night

The Man Who Planted Trees, an award-winning animated film about the power of one person to create environmental change, will be shown at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 21st at the First United Methodist Church, 625 NE Mizner Blvd. in Boca Raton. After the movie there will be a discussion and children's activities. Refreshments will be served.

Leadership Corner:
Two Postures Toward Change

In this space, each week, we will try to provide some insight into issues relating to leadership. Leadership is an important, generous act of ministry. In a church our size, all have the opportunity, and many take the opportunity, to provide leadership for our work together. In addition, many of us also provide the ministry of leadership in our ministries between Sundays in our homes, workplaces, and communities.

This week, we point you to a good post on dealing with change from Michael Hyatt, the CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers and a prolific blogger on leadership. When (not if!) we encounter change in our lives and organizations, we have two choices: we can either lean into it, or lean away from it. Read it here.

What Do You Play?

To more effectively fulfill our mission and engage younger generations in loving God, loving others, and serving the world, it is necessary to expand our opportunities for worship. Do you or someone you know play an instrument or sing? Let Pastor Jason know!

Hands-On Ministry Opportunity

Gleaning is the practice of going into fields after a harvest to collect produce left behind that would otherwise go to waste. It brings together growers, volunteers, and nonprofit agencies to provide for the hungry fresh produce. CROS Ministries, in partnership with Village Baptist Church and the Community Food Alliance of Palm Beach County, is sponsoring "gleanings" the next two Saturdays, May 22nd and May 29th, in Belle Glade and Palm City from 8:30 to 11:30 AM. If you would like to participate, contact Viviane Fils-Aime, the CROS Ministries Gleaning coordinator by email or phone, 561-233-9009. If you participate, let us know. We would love to hear your between Sundays ministry story!

Rummage Sale

On Friday and Saturday, June 4th and 5th, from  8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Pattie Taylor is organizing a yard sale to raise funds for our Lake Worth Community Dinner. If you have items you would like to donate, please see her to set up a time to bring them to the church.
