Valentine's Day Dinner and Dance

On Saturday Evening, February 13th, we will be holding our annual Valentine’s Day Dinner. We will gather together to enjoy a wonderful meal prepared under the direction of our own Chef Christopher Lepard. Tickets are $25 apiece with proceeds benefitting our kitchen renovation fund. Menu will include cornish game hen, mixed vegetables, wild rice, and a special chocolate dessert.

Ash Wednesday Service

Ash Wednesday begins the the 40 day journey to Easter, Lent. You are invited to join us in the sanctuary at 7:00 PM for a brief service of scripture, song, prayer, and, if you choose, the imposition of ashes. Let us begin the journey together!

Ecclesia

This Sunday, we explored the topic of justice, how it differs from mercy, and how we are called to practice it in community. You can watch the service here. Next week we will wrap up our exploration of our mission statement as a church by talking about how we do this all together in community

Psalm Forum

First Congregational United Church of Christ is going to read through the Psalms in 2016! You are invited to join us in reading through the song book of the Bible.

Our Psalms Forum meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM with insightful conversation among those gathered. You can see an outline of what was discussed and participate virtually by sharing your questions and observations on our website
.

Souper Bowl Sunday

Sunday, February 7th, we will celebrate the big day with a "tailgate party" with all your favorites after the worship service. We will also be collecting canned goods and money for CROS Ministries. Bring your spare change (and bills!) to put in the soup pots as we tackle hunger!

CROS Volunteers

Christians Reaching Out to Society provides people to take tickets at Artigras each year. They are in need of volunteers for Sunday, February 15th. There are two shifts, 8:30 to 1:30 and 1:00 to 5:00, with 20 volunteers needed at each shift.

All volunteers must register online no later than February 5, 2016. Please contact Danielle Devine at 561-271-1566 ordevine@crosministries.org for more information.

CROS Food Pantry
The month of February is one of the two opportunities we have each year to collect food for the CROS Food Pantry. Our goal this month is 100 bags of food. Some great items to bring are peanut butter, canned meats, canned vegetables, 1 pound bags of rice and beans, pasts, and macaroni and cheese. Let's help CROS help us in fulfilling our ministry of mercy to the less fortunate in Palm Beach County!

Facebook

If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page. First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.

Gifts of the Dark Wood

We have been told of our lives that if we are good, good things will happen to us and that if we are bad, bad things will happen to us. As we make our way through life, we discover with Jesus that "the rain falls on the just and the unjust." These times of struggle, rather than being shunned, can be embraced as an opportunity for growth and greater awareness of God in the midst of our lives. In addition to exploring the "Gifts of the Dark Wood" in worship during Lent, we will be gathering on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM, beginning February 17th. Together we will discuss Eric Elnes' book and watch teaching from such teachers as Brian McLaren, Diana Butler Bass, and Parker Palmer. Books are available for $12.00 in the sanctuary lobby. They can also be purchased for Kindle on Amazon.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
