Annual Meeting This Sunday
All members are requested to join us for our annual meeting this Sunday, November 22nd after worship. We will vote on our 2016 budget and elect new committee members and officers for the new year. Our friends and visitors are also welcome to stay and peek under the hood as well! Please remember to bring your Faith Promise cards as well this week. |
Faith Promises for 2016
We are currently in the process of making our faith promises for 2016. If you have not already, please bring your faith promise card in this Sunday, November 22nd. You can read more here. Interfaith Thanksgiving Service This Thanksgiving, November 26, 2015, the Lake Worth Interfaith Network will hold a service of gratitude right here at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Take a break from your cooking and join together as participants in the many faith traditions of Lake Worth come together sharing readings, prayer, and songs from their faith traditions. James Finley on Peace This weekend Pastor Jason had the opportunity to be a part of a retreat with James Finley. Jim lived as a monk at the cloistered Trappist monastery of the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky, where the world-renowned monk and author, Thomas Merton, was his spiritual director. After leaving the monastery, he became a psychotherapist and now is a sought after retreat leader. One of Dr. Finley’s themes is finding peace in the midst of non-peaceful circumstances. A brief teaching from Jim on the subject can be found on our website. Environmental Film Cowspiracy, a documentary which uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today, will be shown on November 22 in the parlor at 12 noon. Learn more about the leading cause of species extinction, ocean "dead zones", water pollution, deforestation, and habitat loss and what can be done about it. A light brunch will be served. The film is approximately 90
minutes.
Advent Together
On Wednesday evenings during Advent (December 2nd, 9th, and 16th) we will gather together for a soup supper and vespers service of song, scripture and prayer. This is a a great opportunity to take a break from the rush of the season and create space for the presence of God in the midst of the sacred season. It is also an opportunity to spend time with the wonderful folks of First Congregational United Church of Christ! Thank you Janet Lisle, Nelson Stone, and Mary Ellen Bryner who will be making soup for us. Mark Your Calendar Tickets to our own Bruce Linser's concert in January would make great Christmas gifts. See more here. |
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who made our first (in a while) Flea Market and Craft Sale a success. A great time was had by all. Thanks go especially to Christopher Lepard who organized the festivities, ably assisted by his husband, Barry, as well as our kitchen staff, vendors, and attendees. Advent Day of Meditation The Monday morning meditation group will hold it's next Day of Silent Meditation on Monday, December 7th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bring lunch, drinks and a jacket. Requested donation is $20. Call Nancy Lydon at 632-5040 if you have questions. Trusting the Promise Our lives and our world are changing at such a rapid pace that it can leave us feeling insecure and exiled. Yet, we know God is with us, leading us, companioning us to a preferred future. That's what we talked about this Sunday. You can watch the service here. Online Giving Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of
First Congregational Church!
