Climate Change Science

Dr. Chuck Downer is a scientist with the US Army Corp of Engineers and one of the coauthors of the 2013 National Climate Assessment. After worship this Sunday he will be giving a brief presentation and answering questions about the science of climate change and what we know for sure now. Refreshments will be served. Join us!

Season of Creation

In September we are engaging The Season of Creation in our worship. In word, song, and visual art we will celebrate our Creator and creation and explore our place in the cosmos. This Sunday we explored the sky and its reflection of our lives here on earth. You can watch the service here. Next Sunday we will wrap up with Mountain Sunday. You can read more on our website.

Family Movie Night

Family Movie Night is scheduled for Friday, September 25 with a potluck dinner at 6:30 pm and the film, To the Arctic, at 7:00 pm in the parlor. This story of love, family, and survival in the harshest place on earth is cinematically beautiful and entertaining for all ages. Narrated by Meryl Streep, the message of protecting our planet and its inhabitants is delivered with gentleness and hope. It’s only 40 minutes, so it works for early bedtimes!

Blessing of the Pets

On Sunday, October 4th we will wrap up our Season of Creation and celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with a Blessing of the Pets and Animals service. We will gather in the courtyard of the church campus at 12:30 PM for a brief service and blessing of all the animals in attendance. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family for a brief, meaningful worship experience with your faith community!

CROS End Hunger Walk

We will once again be participating in the CROS End Hunger Walk, the annual fund and awareness raiser for Christians Reaching Out to Society. Check here for more information.

They rehearseon Monday evenings at 7:00 PM and on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM. They are a welcoming, friendly group led by our music director, Bruce Linser. No matter what your musical skill level, you will find a place in our choir! Choir rehearsals resume Monday evening, September 14th, at 7:00 PM.

Listening Meetings

In September we will be kicking off the P.E.A.C.E. year by holding listening meetings in various locations and at various times. The purpose of these meetings is to create a safe, sacred space for us to share our stories of what we are concerned about in our community. Find the times and places for meetings on our website.

Worship Planning Meeting
The next special season of the church year is Advent, the four weeks leading to Christmas when we prepare ourselves for for the incarnation of God in Christ and in our lives. Would you like to be a part of planning our worship during this season? We need help with chancel (stage) decoration, readings, music, and other elements. The word liturgy means "the work of the people" so we are going to take the opportunity to involve more people in creating our worship experiences. We will meet in person but also communicate and collaborate online. Contact Pastor Jason for more information.

September Crossroads
The September Crossroads is finally here. You should have received a copy in the mail this week. If not you can pick up a copy Sunday at worship or take a peek at it here.

Food Drive

September is one of the months that we collect food for C.R.O.S. Ministries. It is an easy, effective way for us to join with other faith communities to engage the growing problem of hunger in Palm Beach County. You can see what to bring on our website. For a deep insight  into the life of someone who has depended on food stamps, see this article by Christine Gilbert over at Vox.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!

Facebook

If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page. First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.
