Blessing of the Backpacks

Join us Sunday, August 16th as we bless the backpacks of children returning to school Monday. We will lift our children up in prayer and bless them during our worship service. After worship, we will gather for an ice cream social to which all are invited

The Seven

This Sunday we continued our journey through the seven cardinal sins by talking about sloth, or acedia. Not just laziness, acedia is a feeling of sadness or apathy that can drive us into a state of not caring about anything. You can listen to the sermon and Bruce's performance of "Not My Problem" on our website, along with links to the video of master penman Jake Weidmann.

Blessing of the Backpacks

Join us on Sunday, August 16th as we bless the backpacks of children returning to school tomorrow. We will lift our children up in prayer and bless them during our worship service. After worship, we will have a time of food and fellowship to which all are invited.

The Family That Prays Together

Are you looking for something to make a difference in your family life at the beginning of this school year. Over at Gravity: A Center for Contemplative Activism's website, they have a story about a family that practices centering prayer together.

John O'Donohue

On Sunday, Pastor Jason mentioned this On Being interview with the late John O'Donohue. It is a wonderful example of "entheos," the God within.

Movie and Potluck Night

Join us Friday evening, August 21st for a church family movie night! We will gather at 6:30 PM to eat (just bring enough to share of whatever you are best at) and at 7:00 PM, we'll start the movie McFarland, U.S.A., an inspirational film based on the true story of a cross country coach in a small California town who transforms a team of athletes into championship contenders.

Facebook
If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page. First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.

Ann Yokie Service
The funeral service for long-time member Ann Yokie will be held at the church on Sunday, August 16th at 12:30 PM.

CROS Liaison
We work closely with Christians Reaching Out to Society, an organization that helps feed and provide for the marginalized in Palm Beach County. We are in need of someone to act as our liaison with C.R.O.S. to keep us informed and educated about ways we can participate with them. If you are interested in taking responsibility for this important task, please see Janet Lisle. There is an upcoming training opportunity for this ministry on September 15th . Also, we need someone to attend the End Hunger Walk meeting on Sunday at 5:00 PM at United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
