Supply Drive

We are once again collecting school supplies for both North Grade Elementary School. This school serves a largely disadvantaged student population and every little bit helps. Please consider picking up some of these items during your next trip to the grocery or discount store and bring them to church with you this Sunday. You can find the list here.

The Seven

This week we continued our series on The Seven Mortal Sins and The Seven Virtues by talking about gluttony. You can watch the sermon here. Next Sunday we'll explore the subject of sloth and diligence. What keeps us from accomplishing everything we're called to do?

Blessing of the Backpacks

Join us on Sunday, August 16th as we bless the backpacks of children returning to school tomorrow. We will lift our children up in prayer and bless them during our worship service. After worship, we will have a time of food and fellowship to which all are invited.

Paint Your Heart Out

A group from First Congregational participated in a Paint Your Heart Out on Saturday, August 1st. We joined about 50 others from the community in painting the house of one of our Lake Worth neighbors. The home owner gets a fresh coat of paint, the neighborhood is improved a bit, and we get the chance to show God's love in a practical way. Thanks Janet, Marty, Deborah, Jacob, Andres, and Jason! You can see pictures on our website

Movie and Potluck Night

Join us Friday evening, August 21st for a church family movie night! We will gather at 6:30 PM to eat (just bring enough to share of whatever you are best at) and at 7:00 PM, we'll start the movie McFarland, U.S.A., an inspirational film based on the true story of a cross country coach in a small California town who transforms a team of athletes into championship contenders.

Facebook
If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page. First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.

Tree of Contemplative Practice
Trent Gilliss, over at the On Being website, recently shared and briefly a picture of a tree containing different branches of contemplative practices. There's more than just meditation! You can see the post here. What practices do you engage in? What practices would you add to the tree.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
