Pentecost

Have you ever had the experience of not being sure what a gift you received was or did? Sometimes the gift of the Holy Spirit seems to be such a gift. This Sunday, Pastor Jason offered thoughts on what the Spirit brings to us as 21st century people of faith. You can listen to the sermon here.

How To Save the Planet

Here is a great article from Yes! Magazine.

"Virtually all of the moon astronauts experienced it during their flights. In his case, it changed the direction of his life: 'I realized that the story of ourselves as told by our scientific cosmology and our religion was incomplete and likely flawed. I saw that the Newtonian idea of separate, independent, discrete things in the universe wasn’t a fully accurate description.'" - A moon walker talks to Richard Schiffman about how to save the world.

Discussion Group

We have been having a rich time together discussing Richard Rohr's book, Breathing Underwater, and discussing the spirituality of the twelve steps.

Last week, we explored the first step, "We admitted we were powerless over our addiction--that our lives had become unmanageable." We discussed the difficulty we have in letting go, in admitting that we don't have as much control as we often pretend. We talked about the importance of letting go to our spirituality and our life.

"Letting go is not in anybody’s program for happiness, and yet all mature spirituality, in one sense or another, is about letting go and unlearning. You can take that as an absolute. As German mystic-philosopher Meister Eckhart said, the spiritual life has much more to do with subtraction than it does with addition."  Father Richard Rohr

You can join us each week as we watch video, discuss each step, and pray together.

Coffee & Conversation

Join us on Thursday mornings from 10:00 - 11:30 in the parlor for coffee and fellowship.

Next Sunday
Guest preacher Rev. Phyllis Parthemer will be leading in worship this Sunday in Jason's absence. Rev. Parthemer is the former co-pastor at Union Congregational Church.

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
