We will again be participating in the End Hunger Walk, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. See the website for more information and contact Janet Lisle if you would like to participate. |
New-comers' Lunch
On October 26th, we will hold a lunch and informational gathering for those
interested in becoming members or just learning more about First Congregational
United Church of Christ. For those who have expressed interest in joining this
is the gathering for you - so save the date!
Intergenerational Worship
This Sunday, we worshiped together as multiple generations as we engaged
the topic of the Ten Commandments. Thank you to all our children who
participated in worship and to Janet Lisle and Cathy Austen who helped get them
organized! Zimbabwe Night
On Friday, October 17 at 6:30 pm there will be a potluck followed by a
presentation by Carol and Karen Lewis on their summer Mission Trip to
Zimbabwe.
The founder of Journey Partners, the sponsoring organization, will also be
joining us from North Carolina to give some history and information about future
mission opportunities. There will also be some jewelry from native crafters and
door prizes. Join us and bring a friend! Blessed to Be a Blessing
Beginning October 19th we will begin a new series, "Blessed to Be a Blessing,"
exploring how God uses people (and churches!) just like us to bless the world
around us. You can read more on our website.
Renewal Book Club
Hamburgers and Hot Dogs by Rob Shindler is a book chosen by the UCC to be read
this month throughout the wider church to highlight the problem of adult
illiteracy as a social justice issue. This funny, informative, and heartwarming
book is the true story of the author's volunteering to become a literacy teacher
so he could teach his own twelve year old son with learning disabilities how to
read. On October 21st at 6:30 PM, the book club will meet in the parlor to
discuss this very inspiring book. Contact Carol Lewis for details.

Engaging Exodus
This Sunday, we explored the relevance of the Ten Commandments for our life
today. You can find the sermon here. Next week, we spend more week with the people of Israel as we engage the story
of the idol created by the people of Israel. Like it was for those ancient
wanderers, sometimes it is easy to get impatient waiting on God and it is
tempting to take matters into our own hands, but it often leads us off
track. Evening of Worship & Prayer
Next week, Wednesday October 15th at 6:30 PM we begin a new tradition as we come
together to pray, sing, and hear a brief teaching on "Prayer and Surrender" by
Father Richard Rohr. We would love for you to join us for this time of worship
and formation in the sanctuary. See our website for more information.
Online Giving
Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
