Loving God, Loving Others, Serving the World

October 28th, 2009                                                                                                            www.fcclw.org

Next Sunday, we wrap up our series, God is Big Enough by exploring a scene from the life of one more hero of the Hebrew scriptures. When Moses was invited by God to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, he came up with a bunch of excuses as to why he couldn't. God, as patient as big, reassured him at every turn, proving that "God is Bigger than My Fears." Join us for great music, and inspiring message, and the experience of coming to the table of communion together.

This week, we experienced together the assuring word that God is Bigger Than My Mistakes. If you missed the service, you can listen to or watch the sermon here.

This Sunday After Church!

New Group Opportunity

If you just don't "get" what the spiritual life is all about, if you have tried to be a "good Christian" but have repeatedly failed, this group just might be for you. A fulfilling, effective spiritual life isn't based so much on will-power as it is in a healthy view of God. Led by Pastor Jason and based on the book by James Bryan Smith, this 10 week small group experience seeks to accomplish three things: teach us about the God that Jesus knew and revealed, invite us to participate in "soul training" exercises based on what we learn, and introduce us to the benefits of traveling together in our spiritual journey. We will start on Wednesday, November 4th at 7:00 PM (Note date change). Click here for more information or to sign up to participate.

Let's Stop Going to Church!

We usually think of church as somewhere we go or something we support. Another way of looking at church is as something that we are.

November 8th - November 22nd, we will be exploring what it could mean to be the church and to be involved in the incredible adventure God has for us in Lake Worth and around the world. Taking our cues from the very first ones to be the church in the Book of Acts, we will imagine what it could mean to use our time, our talents, and our treasures to work with God in making an impact on our community. And each of us will have the opportunity to respond.

Next Sunday your Being Church packet will be available to pick up. On November 8th, following the worship service, our 2010 Proposed Budget will be explained. And on November 22nd, we will celebrate together being the church at our annual meeting.

SERRV Sale

This holiday season, the Mission Committee will be offering products to purchase from SERRV, a ministry that sells products made by craftspeople in developing countries. We have chosen a great selection of reasonably priced gifts. You can see them at the holiday festival on Saturday November 14th, other Sundays in December and on our website here.

Join us Tuesday evening from
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM for a great meal and great fellowship!

Holiday Festival

Saturday, November 14th from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM is our annual holiday festival. We have arts & crafts from our own crafters and from over 20 vendors. The popular cookie box sale will be back and we have the biggest baskets we've ever had to be raffled off. Basket raffle tickets will be available beginning this Sunday for $1 apiece of 6 for $5.00.

We need your help to get the word out about the festival. Forward this email or pick up some fliers at the church to give to your friends. This is also a great opportunity for us to interact with people from our community so we would love to see you there!

Gadget Drive

Do you have a drawer that looks like this? Well, you might be able to help us out! We are currently conducting a "gadget drive" to raise money for improved video and audio equipment in the sanctuary.

Here is how it works:
1. Go to this website and find the value of the electronic device you would like to donate (laptops, cell phones, camcorders, mp3 players, and more)
2. Send the item to Gazelle for free. (They are the company that is helping us with the drive).
3. Gazelle will send a check to the church.

How easy is that??!

If you have a gadget but don't want to deal with the website, drop it off at the church office.

If you haven't bought an electronic device since 1978, please forward this email to your kids and grandkids. They will have stuff laying around they may be looking to get rid of!
