Walk On the Water III &
Men's Fellowship Camping Trip

Everyone who left with groups from our church last Friday has safely returned!

Makenzie Button, India O'Donnell, Denise Robinson, Courtney Savino, and Meghan Whisenhunt went with Carol Lewis and Janet Lisle to the Key Biscayne Community Church to attend the third annual Walk on the Water Retreat. They joined 120 U.C.C. youth and their leaders from all over the state of Florida. The theme for the retreat was based on Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River.

Another group headed the opposite direction to spend the weekend together at Highland Hammock State Park. 25 members and friends of our church roughed it for two nights in the cold (at least by Florida standards) and enjoyed a great time of fellowship together.

This Week's Message

Rev. Dr. John Button offered some thoughts on what to do when we get into a "pickle," when there is something we want or need to do and we just can't seem to get motivated enough to do it. There are very few that would not benefit from listening to this sermon, "What Lights Your Fire?" You can listen to it here.

Next Week's Message

This coming Sunday, Pastor Jason begins a new series on "Encounters With Christ," looking how unique individuals in scripture encountered Jesus in different ways. We'll start this week with Nicodemus.

First Big House of 2009!

Next Friday, January 31st will be the First Big House of 2009. What is Big House? Check out this video. It is an opportunity for all the neighborhood kids and their families to get together for fun and worship. Join us at  6:00 for dinner and 7:00 for Big House!

Experiencing God

A phrase in John Button's sermon caught my attention as I was listening to it this morning. "We aren't called to believe in God; we are called to experience God." I believe in God. I know a whole lot about God. I can explain and defend God from a conservative evangelical perspective or a liberal, social justice perspective. The thing is, God cannot be explained, and God, most assuredly, does not need to be defended. God is God! God is the source of all life, and love, and power and I want to experience more!

Thank You God for reaching out to me. Thank You for the gift of Jesus, the Christ, through whom I am able to experience you in a very real way. I pray that Your Spirit will inhabit my humble attempts to experience more of You.

What if First Congregational Church of Lake Worth became more than just a place where we learned about God, but a movement that facilitated the experience of God in our lives and in our world?

How do you experience God? I would love to hear!

Peace,
