We're Back!

Well, after some computer problems and digging out from the Christmas season, our  e-newsletter team is back at work. It helped that on Monday we locked them all in a room and told them they could not come out until they produced a newsletter. Now that we're over that hump, we will try to keep them working at keeping you  informed and, hopefully, inspired as we journey together at First Congregational Church of Lake Worth.

New Small Group

The five-week small group experience, Outflow, will begin Wednesday, January 21st, at 5:30 PM in the church parlor. This is your chance to get a sneak-peak at what will become our first-ever spiritual emphasis campaign taking place during Lent this year. Outflow is an introduction to life filled to the brim with God's love, joy, and hope that then flows out to our family, friends, community, and world.

There is still some space if you would like to be a part of this group. For all those who will be starting with us on Wednesday, please see Jason for some information to read before our first session. We will gather at 5:30 on Wednesdays, share a light meal together, spend time with the material, and wrap up by 7:00 PM!

This Week's Sermon

This Sunday, we wrapped up our series, "God, I Need a New Year," with a look at "Life in a 'New' Economy." We looked at some of God's timeless economic principles. You can listen to the sermon here

Next Sunday...

Rev. Dr. John Button will be sharing about where to find the momentum we need in and for our lives

Waiting for the Star to Stop

During my scripture reading this week, I noticed a sentence in the Gospel of Matthew in a way I had not noticed it before. It is Matthew 2:10: "When they saw the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy." I guess so. The wise ones had been traveling for two years according to the chronological hints from Matthew's birth narrative. Then, finally, the star they were following stopped. They found that for which they had been looking, the Christ child.

It caused me to reflect on some of the stars that I follow: the star of truth, the star of success, the star of security, the star of happiness, and many others I am sure. I wonder how many of the stars I follow stop with Jesus?

It seems that everything the wise ones were searching for was found in the Christ child.

What stars are you following in life?  Is the Jesus that you have experienced been everything for which you have been searching?

Peace,
