It's Finally Time for the Beach Party!

Beach Party Vacation Bible School is next week! The summer has flown by and we want to give the kids in our community a week they will remember before the head back to school. There will be crafts, games, food, stories, and lots and lots of fun. We will continue to get the word out this week. If there is a Kindergarten through fifth grade student in your life or neighborhood make sure you let them know. The Beach Party takes place Monday through Friday, August 11th-15th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. And we will wrap up the week with a great Big House service on Friday night!

Get In the Game!

Are you interested in becoming more involved in the life of First Congregational Church? Have you wondered what our values and beliefs include? Are you curious about who we are as The United Church of Christ? We will be discussing these and any other questions you have this Sunday, August 10th at 9:00 AM in the parlor. If you are a new attender here or even if you have been here years and there are questions that you still have, come and have a bagel and coffee and good conversation with Pastor Jason this Sunday!

This Week's Sermon
"The Foundation of Prayer"

This week we began our series on Nehemiah, A Time to Build. Before Nehemiah started his building project, he offered a prayer to God. He brought his concerns. He was confident in God's character and promises. He included confession. And he was committed to action. You can watch the sermon here and listen or download the sermon here.

Next week we will talk about The Tools to Turn Intentions to Actions. Hope to see you there!

Deep Calls to Deep

"put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch."                      Luke 5:4

"The purpose of a ship isn't to stay docked in the harbor. Our human souls  weren't made for shallow water. We must dive into deeper waters with the help of the Holy Spirit. In these deep places the wonderful treasures of the spiritual life are found."                      Joshua Choonmin Kang,
                                  Deep-Rooted in Christ

Staying in the shallows is safe. It is comfortable. I know what is in the shallow water. I have been splashing around there my entire life. But Jesus always beckons the disciple to go deeper. That is where the "good catch" is. There, in the deep, is the stuff of transformation in love. Can we, will we, trust the one that beckons us to "put out into the deep water," confident that he has our best interest at heart? I, for one, am beginning to be able to imagine taking the risk.

Peace,
Pastor Jason
